6 Chartered Flights to Chennai from Port Blair

Flights to Chennai
Located on the Coromandel Coast, Chennai is the capital city of Tamil Nadu. It is also the largest commercial and industrial centre in the southern part of the country. This city is visited by thousands of tourists every year and this is the reason that the demand for flights to Chennai is quite high. This high demand also attracted carriers like Malaysia-based AirAsia to start its operations in this country. This carrier recently announced Delhi as its secondary hub. However, prior to this, its services were available in south India only. In addition to AirAsia, a new regional carrier – Air Pegasus – also commenced its services in this region. As per industry experts, it is a lucrative market and hence, carriers are looking forward to capitalise vast opportunities lying in this region.

Apart from these operations, travellers can also avail services offered by 6 chartered flights, launched by Air India – the flag carrier of the country. A few weeks back, this national airline announced 5 chartered flights to Chennai from Port Blair. It revised the plan and added another one to be operated on every Wednesday. Now, a total of 6 such flights are operates on alternate Saturdays and every Wednesdays in a month. The departure time of these flights is 9.40 am, which reaches Port Blair at 11.55 am. On the other hand, the return flight is scheduled at 12.30 pm and reaches Chennai at 2.45 pm.

SriLankan Airlines

In addition to the national airline, SriLankan Airlines also increased the frequency of operations between Colombo and Chennai. Now, this carrier offers around 86 flights between India and Sri Lanka, every week. As per reports, the airline reduced frequency of services on this route, back in 2013, as a result of low demand. However now, it has increased in the past few months. The General Manager (Sale) of the carrier said that Chennai is an important market for the company and hence, it has increased options for cheap flights to Chennai for its customers. There were more that 2.25 lakh arrivals at Colombo from Chennai in the previous year.

Impact of IPL 2015

The launch and capacity addition on these routes during the Indian Premier League (IPL) season offers mutual benefits to carriers and travellers. The demand for air ticket to Chennai remains quite high and these IPL matches scheduled at MA Chidambaram Stadium will boost it even further. Hence, people looking forward to enjoy the 23rd IPL match Chennai vs Punjab can make their reservations now.

Tow-times IPL champion, the Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is in good form as ever. It will be competing against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), which features strong players, such as George Bailey. Hence, this match is bound to be interesting. In the previous IPL season, KXIP won all the three matches that were scheduled between these two teams. However, this time, Chennai will have its home support at the ground and players like McCullum, Mohit Sharma and Dhoni are in their best forms.
