Availing Cheapest Airfare in This Festive Season

Stiff competition in the Indian aviation industry has lead to fare wars between low-cost as well as full-fledged carriers. This market has also witnessed a number of twists and turns in the previous quarter. As per Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) reports, SpiceJet gained substantial market and pushed back the flag airline of the country – Air India – in the ranking orders. Other low-cost carriers (LCCs) also managed to allure fliers by offering cheapest airfare, which in turn increased their flight occupancy. However, the Sun Group-owned company – SpiceJet – not only recorded growth in the number of fliers, but also topped the charts in terms of load factor.

As per reports, SpiceJet booking has increased because of the frequent flash sales announced by the company. Apart from this, the commencement of flights on new routes also contributed. The chief executive officer on the other hand shares a different view. Responding to these reports, he said that these discounts definitely helped in attracting new passengers, but the consistency in services provided by the carrier played an important role in retaining them. The airline operates more than 300 daily flights to over 45 national and 10 international destinations. Its fleet size of around 53 aircraft consists of the latest models launched by Boeing and Bombardier. These fuel efficient models allow these LCCs to cut down tariffs, which attracts more customers and is ultimately reflected as profits in the books of carriers. One of such offers includes SpiceJet tickets at just INR 699 to a number of domestic destinations.

This LCC recently announced Early New Year Sale followed by Early Bird offer in September. Under this deal, travellers can book flights to different cities of the country at INR 699 for travel dates falling between 16th January and 24th October, 2015. However, the bookings had to be made by 1st of October, 2014. Jet Airways and Air Asia also came up with similar offers, but to selective destinations of Southern India. The booking window for both of them was longer, till 5th of October. IndiGo, the leading airline of the country with over 32 per cent market share also announce similar offers to tackle this price-based competition.

No Change in SpiceJet Ticket Booking Percentage after it Cancelled Flights to Kabul

SpiceJet, one of the top carriers of the country, sighting passenger safety has cancelled all its flights to Kabul – the capital city of Afghanistan – after the attacks on the Kabul International Airport in the past week. In an official statement, the carrier made it clear that flying its aircraft to the Afghan capital in the present scenario would be a mistake and risky for its passengers. People, who have already booked an air ticket to Kabul with this airline, will get a full refund. It is in discussion with other airlines to accommodate passengers who are still willing travel to Afghanistan.

The Attack

A rocket attack on the concerned airport was reported on 3rd July, followed by airport fire on 17th July. After considering the security status of this airport, the airline has temporarily suspended its flights. The airline is concerned about the safety of travellers and its crew. When the rocket was fired, over 100 people were all set to travel on the SpiceJet aircraft. Now, each passenger is being checked with a metal detector just before boarding the flight, even after clearing the security check at the terminal.

Afghanistan is interpreting this step as lack of trust on their security system, but as per sources, the carrier is not willing to take any risk with the life of its passengers and the aircraft. However, SpiceJet ticket booking process for any other destination has not been affected by this step. So, people can make reservations with the airline without any qualms. They can also enjoy top notch facilities provided by the carrier by availing it recently announced mega sales offer. The carrier has brought down its base fare to INR 1699 for travel dates falling in August and September.

Frequent Promotional Schemes Bolster SpiceJet Flight Ticket Booking

The aviation space of India has witnessed significant developments in the past few decades. The inception and advent of low-cost carriers and the trend of online flight ticket booking have led to the dawn of the era of air travel here. Today, there is a host of aviation companies in the country, which strive to offer world-class passenger, as well as, cargo air services. The current fiscal has been an interesting one by far. Factors like the commencement of operations of AirAsia India and growing rivalry among carriers have created an interesting market scenario. Leading low-cost carriers or LCCs of the country, such as IndiGo, GoAir and SpiceJet have been involved in a tug of fare war. These budget airlines have been announcing attractive promotional schemes throughout the year in order to maintain and enhance passenger traffic.

In this airfare war, the most trending and interesting battle is going on between IndiGo – the leading carrier of the country in terms of market share and SpiceJet – the Sun Group aviation foray. SpiceJet, which had recorded loss in the past few years, has emerged to be the second leading airline as per recorded market share data. Travel experts suggest that the primary reason behind the boost in SpiceJet flight ticket booking is the treat of flash sales, which the airline has been offering since January, 2014. From base fare at INR 1 and about 50 per cent slash down in price, to Monsoon Sale and Bundled Prices, this no-frills airline has offered an array of discounts and benefits. These schemes have increased the influx of passengers with the carrier and brought it into a somewhat better position. It is expected that by the end of this fiscal the airline might be in a profitable position in the market.

FireFly of Malaysia emerged as the cheapest no-frills airline of the world, according to reports. This LCC was offering one-way air ticket booking along with about 20 kilograms baggage allowance at an average charge of approximately 30 Euros. The Sun Group carrier, offering a one-way ticket at an average price of around 52.24 Euros, was placed at the second place in this list. The Istanbul-based budget carrier – Onur Air bagged the third place with its average airfare being about 55.70 Euros. AirAsia – the low-cost Malaysian airline, which recently commenced operations in India, was positioned at the fourth rank in this list. Pegasus Airlines, another Istanbul-based LCC, emerged to be the cheapest carrier of Europe. This budget airline, offering an average price of around 64.64 Euros, proved the general notion about Ryanair – the Irish LCC – being the cheapest wrong. TigerAir – the Singapore-based carrier – was placed at the ninth position while the tenth place was occupied by VivaAerobus – the Mexican LCC.

It is being predicted by travel experts that IndiGo and SpiceJet ticket booking will witness considerable upsurge after this declaration. The fact that these LCCs are among top ten cheapest carriers of the world would encourage more and more travellers to opt for flying with them. The ongoing cut-throat competition in the Indian market is expected to ease a little for these two budget airlines after the generation of this list worldwide.
